DescThe Colosseum in Rome, Italy, is the largest amphitheatre built in the ancient Roman Empire. Construction began under emperor Vespasian around 70 AD and was completed in 80 AD during the reign of emperor Titus. The Colosseum could seat 50.000 spectators. The name is probably derived from a colossal statue of emperor Nero close to the theatre.
