Piazza del Campidoglio on Capitol in Rome was designed by Michelangelo in 1536, but he did not live to see the project completed. The buildings on the piazza are Palazzo Nuovo (left), Palazzo Senatorio (centre) and Palazzo dei Conservatori. In the centre of the piazza is a copy of a statue of Marcus Aurelius, roman emperor from 161 to his death in 180.AME_100069319__TTJ2582-Edit-2 Piazza del Campidoglio CC-BY Tor Tjeransen (AME).jpg
The Colosseum in Rome, Italy, is the largest amphitheatre built in the ancient Roman Empire. Construction began under emperor Vespasian around 70 AD and was completed in 80 AD during the reign of emperor Titus. The Colosseum could seat 50.000 spectators. The name is probably derived from a colossal statue of emperor Nero close to the theatre.AME_100069349__TTJ2568 Colosseum CC-BY Tor Tjeransen (AME).jpg
